Biography
Dr. Nick Savidov is Senior Research Scientist at the Integrated Agriculture Technology Centre, Lethbridge Polytechnic. He is plant physiologist/biochemist by training and worked as a researcher in several universities around the world. He received his PhD in Russian State Agricultural University, Russia, and had his postdocs done in Ben-Gurion University, Israel, and University of Alberta, Canada. He got his position of Senior Research Scientist at Lethbridge Polytechnic in 2015 and holds it till present.
Dr. Savidov presented lectures as invited speaker and taught courses in numerous universities around the world.
Dr. Savidov has done multidisciplinary academic and applied research in plant physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, greenhouse production and aquaponics.
He is an internationally recognized expert in zero-waste Integrated Food Production Systems, such as aquaponics.
Dr. Savidov introduced several novel technologies into agricultural practice in Alberta.
Dr. Savidov’s research in the last 23 years focused on the conversion of organic agricultural waste into mineralized nutrient solutions in specially designed aerobic bioreactors to be used as a fertilizer.
He was the first researcher who introduced and extensively studied biochar/biocarbon as microfiltration, biofiltration and growing media for soilless greenhouse production.
Dr. Savidov also pioneered LED technology for horticultural application.
